History:

In 1922 the SC Trogen near St. Gallen was instructed to host the first championships of the Ski Association of Eastern Switzerland. The ski jumping hill of that time was only a very small construction and was more or less only consisting of snow. With the up-coming popularity of foursome combination of winter sports, that is slalom, downhill and cross-country skiing together with ski jumping, the ski club constructed the Birtschanze at Vöglinsegg in the nearby town Speicher and inaugurated it on February 15, 1931. The spectators even paying one Franc entrance-fee shows people’s up-rising enthusiasm for ski jumping in these days. But the new ski jumping hill and the distances it allowed couldn’t come up with the sportive development of ski jumping. Since cross-country and alpine skiing had been coming up and became independent disciplines, the last ski jumping competitions were organized in late 1940’s. Afterwards the ski jumping hill dilapidated and was finally removed.
