The SC Crans-Montana was founded in 1950’s through the fusion of the ski clubs of Montana-Vermala, where the ski jump was also situated, and Crans-sur-Sierre-Lens. Although this double-town is more likely to be known for alpine skiing, there had been ski jumping activties already from 1920's onwards.
The Vermala K56 was inaugurated on 1930-01-08 with junior jumper Edmond Chabloz jumping the longest distance of 44 m. In 1967 it was enlarged into a 70 meter ski jumping hill, but unfortunately it has no more been used for quite a while.
With the failed Olympic bid of Sion for the 2006 games a reactivation of the ski jump was discussed.
