History:
The first ski jump in Vyborg (or Viipuri in Finnish) was built already in 1905. It was located on Gora Papula / Papulanvuori which, technically, at that time was located outside of town. The hill record was 19 metres jumped by Rudolph Pehrson from Norway.
Later a new ski jump was built there. It was design by Robert Pehrsson, an engineer from Norway. It was financed by city officials and Vyborg Ski Society maintened the facility later. The opening ceremony was held on on March 14, 1909.
In 1914 it hosted the first ever Finnish Ski Jumping Championships. Winner was local hero Sulo Jääskeläinen and runner-up was another local ski jumper with H. Kraatz. Finnish Championships were organized there 3 times, in 1914, 1917 and 1920. At that time the hill record was 32.5 metres.
The wooden ski jump needed constant repairs. Two times it collapsed because of too much snow, in 1925 and 1928, but was rebuilt both times.
During Soviet times Vyborg's ski jump probably was rebuilt once again but there is not much information about that. It even got artifical plastic covering, which is still partially visible, just like the concrete foundations of the inrun tower.
