History:

In 1933 a skiing complex was opened in Berceni, one of Bucharest's districts. The 3 alpine slopes (one for beginners, one for more advanced skiers and one for sledges) were located in a valley called Valea Plângerii, which 40 years later got converted into park called Parcului Tineretului ("Youth Park"). It may be surprising that at that time the whole complex was really popular among local people, especially children and youth.
At the location where nowadays the sports hall Sala Polivalentă din București, named after Ioan Kunst-Ghermănescu, is located, also formerly existed two ski jumps. The bigger one had a quite high and steep wooden inrun tower which allowed skiers to jump around 25 metres. The smaller one was using a natural slope next to the bigger one, adding just a small take-off. Both hills were used until 1958 or 1959 and later got destroyed to make a place for the new sports hall.
