History:

In the interwar period, Międzygórze (Wölfelsgrund) was one of the main winter sports centres in the Eastern Sudetes, and on the slopes of Śnieżnik there operated a solid ski jumping hill now known as the Sudetenschanze. Its construction or major reconstruction began in the autumn of 1937, as reported by the Silesian press, which stated that the facility received an inrun of approximately 70 metres. The hill played an important role in the local sports infrastructure, and nearby guesthouses advertised themselves as being “next to the ski jump”, confirming its significant position in the life of the resort.
In the 1939/40 season, numerous skiing events were planned and partly held in Wölfelsgrund, including ski jumping competitions (such as the Weihnachtssprunglauf), Nordic combined contests, as well as cross-country races and slaloms on the slopes of Śnieżnik. In January 1940, district championships in cross-country skiing and Nordic combined took place here, in which Willi Kaluza of Ski-Club Beuthen claimed the district title. Ski jumping formed an important part of these competitions, clearly confirming that the larger hill was active at the time.
After the Second World War, the facility ceased to be used and fell into ruin. Today, a characteristic outline of the landing slope is still visible in the terrain, located near the present-day “Parking Pod Skocznią”, which owes its name to this former ski jumping hill.
