Hjerdalsbakken was built in 1915 as an alternative and backup for the Ingolfslandbakken. At that time, the hill was large, modern and also challenging. Its big disadvantage was the location nearby the Rjukan Fjellstue, a hotel. Eventually, the inrun tower collapsed in 1936 under snow masses. Even though there were plans in the 1960's to rebuild it, the history of the Hjerdalsbakken already ended here.
