History:

Hantobakken was the largest ski jumping hill in Lunde and the club hill of IL Skade. The facility was built in the 1920s as a natural hill on the slope above the Skoeelva River.
According to the local study by Harald Ovenstrøm (“Hoppbakker i Lunde” in volume 12 of the series Meir frå bygda – Folk set spor), Hantobakken was the best-known ski jumping hill in the entire area and was also well known among leading Norwegian ski jumpers. In 1937 the hill record was 54 m, set by Olav Slåttun. After World War II, an opening competition was held here in 1947, won by the famous Birger Ruud with a jump of 62 m. An unofficial best jump is the 64-metre attempt by junior Arvid Standeren during training in 1948.
The later official record of Hantobakken was 62.0 m and is attributed to Arnfinn Sandengen of Kongsberg IF. At the same time (24 January 1954), the Telemark district championships (Kretsmesterskap) were held at Hantobakken, from which about 30 photographs have been preserved in the Telemark Museum archives.
Many local IL Skade athletes were associated with Hantobakken, including Trygve Bjerva (“Tanna”) as well as Ole Bjørn Stoa, Olaf Sollid, Kjell Bergersen and Jørgen Nordskog.
The hill ceased to be used for sporting purposes after several decades, and the infrastructure was dismantled. However, the terrain shape of the former landing slope is still clearly visible today and forms the starting point of popular hiking routes, including Fløterstien, which follows the Skoeelva River from Hantobakken to Haslerud.
