History:

Already in 1886 people did winter sports, i.e. cross country skiing, in Tistedal near Halden. That’s why in 1916 the decision was made to build a ski jumping hill. Finally the first competition was held on January 4th 1920 where Eilif Johansen set up a first hill record of 23.5 m. After that the jump which is called Ræbben by local people was converted very often. In 1933 a horrible hurricane went over Tistedal, but this couldn’t stop the inhabitants of the town, who were crazy about ski jumping, from rebuilding the facility again and again.
In 1947 they were allowed to host the traditional Norwegian Championships in the small city in the province of Østvold and Thorleif Schjeldrup even set up an new hill record with 56.5 m. In the 60’s people didn’t remember much of their ski jumping tradition and the last competition for a long time in 1966 ended with a last improvement of the hill record by Kristoffer Selbekk who landed at 62.5 m. At that time Norwegian ski jumping heroes like Bjørn Wirkola and Toralf Engan jumped on the hill. The last competition on Bjørnstadbakken was in 1984, but the jump still has not been removed an people to everything possible to stop it from dilapidating, for example short time ago rock concert supporting the reconstruction of the jump took place.
