History:

Shibetsu city is located between Asahikawa and Nayoro, in the north part of Hokkaidō, and is famous as the "town of sheep".
The 30 meter ski jumping hill called "Gakuden Schanze" was built in the middle of the Gakuden ski area in 1970 and has mainly been used for practicing. It was already abandoned in 1980's, because there a modern ski jumping facility was built at Asahi near Shibetsu. The ski area was also closed in the 2000's, and has become a sheep pasture. The rusty steel inrun tower still stands in the forest on the hill.
