History:
The ski jump was located above Balme in the Ala di Stura valley (Piedmont), in the communal Ghieri forest on the right side of the Stura di Lanzo valley. The facility was built by the municipality of Balme in 1929–1930, right next to the large rock formation Rocca S.A.R.I. (locally known as Roc d’la Ghieri), which is now a popular climbing wall.
Construction work on the hill began in the spring of 1929, and on 30 March 1930 an inaugural competition was held, won by local jumper Pietro Castagneri “Aria”. It was the second ski jumping facility in Balme – the first one had been built already in 1924 in the Arculà area, above today’s Villaggio Albaron.
Over time, the hill fell out of use and its structure became overgrown by forest. What remains today is a stone retaining wall from the 1930s, now marked with an information board along the “Pista Adolfo Kind” trail that runs from Balme towards Pian della Mussa. Thanks to clearing work carried out in recent years, the remnants of the ski jump are visible again from the nearby walking path and ice rink.
