History:
In the 1930s, in Hveradalir near the capital of Iceland, Reykjavík, a ski jumping hill with a spectacular stone take-off was successfully operating. In 1937, this hill hosted the first ever Icelandic championship. In 1939, a show jumping event has held by the Norwegian master Birger Ruud, including "salto mortale", a jump with somersault in the air. In an ordinary jump he managed to land 32.5 meters. The Norwegian planned to take part in the opening of a new hill in nearby Kolviðarhól, but these plans were thwarted by bad weather conditions. Although over the years the ski jump was forgotten, its remains are still visible.
