History:

After local skier Björn Þór Ólafsson won the national championship in 1965, ski jumping became a very popular sport in Ólafsfjörður. There was only a 50 meter hill nearby, so it was decided to build a smaller facility for children in the town.
In 1967 the 17 meter hill at the Gullatún slope was designed by engineer Einar B. Pálsson. It was put into use a year later. The hill, which was looked after by the club Íþróttafélagið Leiftur, quickly became one of the sporting landmarks of the city, eagerly used by boys and girls from the area.
Even though with the beginning of the 21st century ski jumping lost its popularity in Iceland, the hill is still used by enthusiasts. In summer, it is used for cycling and as a water slide.
