History:
At Oberschönau, home of ski jumping legend Erich Recknagel, Paul-Wagner-Schanze was built in 1922 and inaugurated on January 28, 1923. The 40 meter hill had been in use for almost 10 years, until it was enlarged into a 70 meter hill. Later the ski jumping hill was renamed as Walter-Wagner-Schanze and along with a smaller training hill it had been in use until mid 1970's. Today, the football pitch of SG SV Ober-/Unterschönau is situated at the former outrun of the ski hill and in the forest the remains of the inrun tower are still visible.
