The wintersports group of TSV Benshausen was only founded in 2001 and in 2006 the construction of plastic covered Lichtenau-Schanze K15 started. In October 2012, another K6 children hill could be inaugurated. The ski club is actively training young ski jumpers, who form a training group with SC Zella-Mehlis.
In early 2019, it became known that an operating permit for part of the territory that the hills are situated on was missing. If such a permit is not issued by the Zella-Mehlis municipal government, the ski jumps might have to be closed and dismantled.
