Named according to the estate owner, on February 8, 1931, the Berglasschanze was opened by Turnerbund Netzschkau. Worth mentioning is its location directly beside the Göltzschtal-Bridge, which was constructed from 1846 to 1851 and with its dimensions (length 574 m, height 78 m) still is supposed to be the world’s largest brick bridge. In the times on National Socialism the jump was renamed to “Franz Neubert Schanze” in 1935, because the Berglas family had Jewish origins.
After World War II the ski jumping hill was reconstructed in 1950 and the inaugurated on Kurt Nagel, a founding father of the skiing section and successful ski jumper from Netzschkau, who died during war in 1943. Ski jumping competitions by sports club Nema Netzschkau and districtal events were organized until 1964. With the foundation of sports club at GDR and accompanying concentration of young ski jumpers the smaller ski jumping clubs received no more support and ended up – just as in western Saxonian Netzschkau, too.
