Already before World War II there were a number of ski jumping hills at Freital in Saxony.
On January 11, 1931 the ski jump on Großer Ternickel, situated below Burgwartsberg, was inaugurated. It allowed jumps around 15 meters. Around 1933 the swimming club (Schwimmverein) 1895 Deuben built another 10-meter hill at Schweinsdorf and further ski jumps also existed at Windberg and at Wachtelberg around this time.
The ski jump at Ternickel was still used as a children's hill during GDR times, at least in 1950s.
