During times of high unemployment in 1928, young men from Oberwette, now a district of Marienheide, decided to build a ski jumping hill at Bockelsburg. In order to move the vast amounts of soil in the landing area, even a field rail was set onto the slope. The inrun tower and judges tower were built from spruce wood. After the ski jump and the alpine skiing slope right next to it were completed, they were started to be used by March 1932. The official inauguration of the ski jumping hill and its status as a state-wide hill were celebrated with the 2nd championships of Bergisches Land ski association on February 26, 1933. Due to lack of snow in following winters and rapdily decreasing number of ski jumpers in the club, ski jumping activities at Oberwette already ended after the winter 1937-1938 and were never resumed.
