The roots of ski jumping at Swabian Bad Urach last back until 1912, the first large ski jumping hill was Hermann-Greiner- or also called Zittelstatt-Schanze opened on 1935-03-10, on which distances of about 45 meters were jumped. After World War II Hermann-Greiner-Schanze was enlarged and renovated in 1956, on it until 1969 numerous large competitions had been hosted with an attendance of up to 12,000 spectators. In 1995 finally the last remainings of the former ski jump were removed, but ten years later they were excavated:

Verschönerungsverein Bad Urach uncovers ski jumping hill Thursday, October 13, 2005 | |

The Verschönerungsverein Bad Urach has today uncovered the former ski jumping hill in the forest. In 1969 for a last time a ski jumper ran down, since it has been covered by trees and bushes. But there won’t be any ski jumping in the future, the club just wants to keep the heritage of times, when Bad Urach was spot of thrilling ski jumping competitions – and also attracted famous sportsmen to the foot of Swabian Alp. Just as ski jumping legend Georg Thoma – he jumped a hill record of 74 meters in 1960. In the future a board shall remind of the tournaments at Bad Urach. Many of today’s helpers were former ski jumpers from Bad Urach, who used their common work to trip down memory lane. In secrete they all expect that some time somebody will be jumping on Hermann-Greiner-Schanze at Bad Urach again.
