History:

From 1964 to 2003, when the Mühlenkopfschanze in Hessian Willingen was converted, the Rukatunturi (or just simply Ruka) at Kuusamo was the world's biggest large hill. But especially in the latter years of this era, this status was quite doubtful since it was already dilapidating.
Due to this reason it was modernized in 1996. Floodlights were installed and made night competitions possible, which became meanwhile a tradition for the occasion of the World Cup Opening at Kuusamo, taking place annually in November since 2002. Since the hill is also equipped with plastic mattings and has got a porcelain trail in the inrun, it is the world's biggest all-year-round ski jumping hill. Furthermore, there is a modern snow making machine and a lift from the outrun up to the tower, too.
The potential of this ski jump can be recognized by the distances reached on it already. With 152 m Adam Małysz equalized the record of the longest ski jump on a large hill, but couldn't stand the jump. On 2004-11-18 Sigurd Pettersen from Norway jumped onto the same distance during a trial jump and stood it.
Additionally, there is also a smaller K64 ski jump at Ruka wintersports center, which had been equipped with mattings in 1986, and the junior hills of Kuusamon Erä-Veikot.

Informacje były nieprawdziwe i szybko wyprostował je Apoloniusz Tajner.

@Arek
