The idea to build a ski jump came from the former ski jumper Leoš Škoda. The chairman for ski jumping at the Czech Ski Federation wanted to change the fact that young ski jumpers from Liberec and Jablonec did not have any training hills. With a couple of volunteers he managed to build the K 12 within one year. He also provided the money for it together with his brother. The ski jump is built according to modern standards and is used by kids in the age between 6 and 13 all year long - thanks to a ceramic inrun track and plastic mattings. In the future, also competitions shall be held regularly. Kids who already do ski jumping shall come as well as beginners, which shall be recruited by collaborations with various schools. Moreover, a K 40 shall be built within the next few years.
There already used to be a K 50 before 1989, not far from the swimming hall Sluníčko, which has the same name as the ski jump. For a long time, this ski jump used to be the only all-year-long ski jump in the country and was prepared by Czech Repulic's ski athlete of the century, Jiří Raška and Olympian Zbyněk Hubač. After 1989, it had to be demolised because of a fragile inrun tower - also because thieves stole some metal from the construction.
