History:

The Schlossbergschanze in Vomp was the first ski jumping hill of the local club WSV Vomp, built on the slopes below Sigmundslust Castle in the early 1930s. Its construction was made possible by the castle’s owner, Maximilian Freiherr von Biegeleben, who provided the land and donated the timber needed for the project, while the hill itself was erected through voluntary work by club members. In its early years, regular club competitions were held here, and the best distance ever recorded on the hill is considered to be Bernhard Hosp’s 32.5-metre jump from 1934. On January 6, 1935, Schlossbergschanze hosted the first official sporting event in the history of WSV Vomp. The hill remained in use until the 1960s, when it was finally closed because the area was designated for residential development. From 1969 onward, ski jumping tradition in Vomp was continued on the new Josef-Gspan-Schanze, regarded as the successor to the former hill beneath Sigmundslust Castle. No visible traces of Schlossbergschanze have survived, but the shape of the slope still makes its former location recognizable.
