New matting hill for Slovenian ski jumpers

on 2004-10-29

After three years of construction time, the new Bauhenk K100 at Kranj could be inaugurated in September. Finally Slovenia has a modern palstic covered ski jump for training and international competitions.

It was made on the 19th of September at 1 p.m.: the first jumper started on the inrun and jumped down the hill. The first jump after three years of building of the new Bauhenk K100 in Kranj (Slovenia) was finished.

Kranj, 25 km in north direction of Ljubljana, the capital, is a small centre of the Slovenian ski jumping sport. There is, actually, with the Gorenja Sava hill areal, which includes four hills with the K50, K40, K20 and K15, and the Kravec-hills (K73, K50, K30) a centre with a lot of hills, to qualify the young Slovenian talents.

But also the good Slovenian jumpers around oldster Primoz Peterka and youngster Rok Benković need, in first rank, for summer training matting hills, which are not present in the Alps-republic in the size of 100 m.

So the officials decided to build the new K100 in Kranj, to guarantee the Slovenian jumpers best conditions for training. In September of 2001, the 3,4 Mio. € expensive project started, which is paid to 30% by the home club SK Triglav.

For this money, the club gets a modest matting hill with a hill size of 109 m, which includes a lift and a stadium with a spectator capacity of 6,000. Also international competitions of the Continental-Cup, maybe of the World-Cup or a competition within the FIS Summer Grand Pix could take place.

So, the SK Triglav Kranj could maybe organize a competition on international niveau on his new flagship ski jumping hill and if not, the local talents will have fun with their new hill!
